Voices only: ‘My Lord, What a Morning’

Welcome to Voices only. This week we feature a few renditions of ‘My Lord, What a Morning,” an African-American spiritual from way back, published in music books as early as the 1800s.

First up, here’s Christian music scholar and performer Michael Lining singing all four parts of the song:

Next, here’s a choral rendition by the Worthington Kilbourne High School choir in Columbus, Ohio. (Wow! Not bad for a high school choir! Not bad for a college or professional choir, for that matter!)

Finally, here’s my favorite rendition of the song — albeit an abbreviated one. This is Grammy winning ensemble Chanticleer delivering a snippet of the hymn in support of their Live from London performance:
