York University in York, Neb., has inaugurated its 22nd president, Timothy Westbrook.

Westbrook replaces Samuel Smith, who left York last year to head Mount Dora Christian Academy and Children’s Home in Mount Dora, Fla.
Westbrook is the former director of Equip, an online program in Bible and ministry for Harding University in Searcy, Ark. He also spent nearly a decade as a missionary to Hungary.
He holds degrees from Harding, the Harding School of Theology and Trinity Evangelical Divinity School.
In his inaugural address to the university and its guests on Sept. 26, Westbrook encouraged his audience to “learn and live the York experience.” He highlighted the university’s history, detailing the long-held collaboration with the city of York and Churches of Christ.

He also discussed York University’s present, emphasizing the memories that are being made right now as students, faculty and staff unite to pursue faith-based higher education.
“From the past, present and into the future, we will urgently work together to keep our mission intact,” Westbrook said. “We will work together to ensure our students are prepared for the future. We will envision a bolder and bigger York University that cherishes the ‘York experience’ of the past while not being afraid to create new ‘York experiences’ for the future.”

Several representatives from other universities associated with Churches of Christ — Harding, Freed-Hardeman, Faulkner, Abilene Christian, Rochester Christian and Oklahoma Christian — attended the ceremony.
Westbrook’s wife, Anessa, has also joined York as the co-executive director of its Center for Ministry. She recently joined B.T. Irwin to discuss the future of rural and small town churches on The Christian Chronicle Podcast.
