Heritage Christian University announces fifth president
Michael Jackson will lead his alma mater after Kirk Brothers steps down in the spring.

Michael D. Jackson will become the fifth president of Heritage Christian University in Florence, Ala., the university has announced.

Since 2022, Jackson has been associate director of accreditation for the Association for Biblical Higher Education, an interdenominational accrediting organization for Bible colleges.
Over the preceding 15 years, the HCU alum held roles as an administrator and professor at his alma mater, which is associated with Churches of Christ and focuses on biblical studies. He also holds a master’s degree in New Testament from Freed-Hardeman University in Henderson, Tenn., and a Doctor of Education degree from Union University.
Jackson is a former associate minister for the Highland Park Church of Christ in Muscle Shoals, Ala., where he now serves as an elder.
In a press release, HCU said the new president brings “a clear vision aligned with HCU’s mission of advancing the Churches of Christ by equipping servants for real-world ministry.”
“He understands our mission, values the heritage that has defined HCU, and has the leadership experience to guide us with wisdom and faith,” added board chair Alan Laguna. “We are grateful to God for His faithful guidance throughout this search.”
“I look forward to being a steward of the HCU mission with humility, faith, and purpose,” Jackson said in the announcement. “I’m grateful for President W. Kirk Brothers’ faithful leadership and service to HCU, and I look forward to our future as we seek to advance the church in this generation.”
Brothers, who has led the university since 2018, will step back from the role at the end of the 2025-2026 school year. He plans to remain with HCU as a faculty member.
